I walked into my local Korean market and saw these rice rolls in the frozen section. I bought three vegetable ones, each one from a different company. Ever had gimbap?

Trader Joe’s gimbap kept selling out last year. I heard it’s pretty good. One of these days, I’ll buy a roll or two.

I’ve bought gimbap/kimbap from Korean deli counters. Try it with sriracha!

I heard that Costco is selling it now. Next time I’m there, I’ll buy some and give a review.

This is a nitpick, but I thought it was spelled “kimbap”?

From what I can tell, using the “g” sound is supposed to be more authentic. In any case, I’m all for another frozen veg option.

Is there an update @Casper ? I never bought this frozen. There are YouTubers who recommend the Trader Joe’s one. Such a good idea. I’m curious!

Yes – got an update on two of the three. Cannot recall the brand of the first one I tried, but each piece fell apart a little or a lot. The second brand was “11:45 A Hungry Time” and I had its mushroom and japchae (seasoned vermicelli) gimbap. Much better!

Sounds good! If you have to heat up leftovers, use a pan. Sprinkle water, then cover the pan. If you can eat eggs, cover each piece with raw egg (oil the pan if doing this).

The final veggie gimbap was from the company Baba. The fillings were carrot, spinach, pickled radish, and burdock root. This was most like what you would get store-bought or at a street market.

Final verdict on all these? It’s good to have a roll or two in the freezer as a just-in-case vegetarian snack or as part of a meal.

Thanks for the reviews, @Casper ! I’ll try one at some point. I’m curious about the different vegetable and protein combinations – would love to try something with tofu. Always cool seeing diversity in the frozen aisle!
